Psathyrella conissans (Pk.) Smith Cap 2-5cm across, convex with an inrolled margin, expanding to become almost flat; dark reddish brown fading to buff brown or pinkish tinged; moist, smooth, sometimes wrinkled with the margin radially lined. Gills adnate, crowded, narrow; brown becoming pinky-reddish brown. Stem 25-50 x 3-5mm, rigid, hollow; whitish tinged pink; finely hairy to scurfy. Flesh white. Spores oblong to ellipsoid, smooth, with an indistinct pore at the tip, 6.5-8 x 3.5-5µ. Deposit pinkish red. Habitat in clusters at the base of trees and stumps. Found in northeastern North America, south to Tennessee and west to Michigan. Season August-October. Not edible.
